Parsley

Constituents:

Fruits: Essential oil with apiol, myristicin, α- and β-pinene, limonene; fixed oil, flavonoids, and furanocoumarins.

Root: Less essential oil, flavonoids, furanocoumarins, and polyines.

Parsley

Petroselinum crispum
ssp. crispum et ssp. tuberosum

Effects and Use:

Parsley’s diuretic use is declining due to the potential kidney irritation from apiol. The root is considered milder and is sometimes still used in bladder and kidney flushing teas. Apiol and myristicin can stimulate uterine contractions, so parsley tea should be avoided during pregnancy. People with kidney issues should also avoid parsley infusions.

Tea Preparation:

Pour 150 ml boiling water over 1 teaspoon of chopped root. Steep for 10 minutes, strain.

Drink 2–3 cups daily.
