Constituents:
Essential oil with carvacrol, cymol, and thymol; Lamiaceae tannins with rosmarinic acid as the main component.
Savory
Effects and Use:
Savory, due to its essential oils and (Lamiaceae) tannins, has antiseptic, antispasmodic, and digestive properties. Internally, it can be used for bloating, mild diarrhea, or general digestive support. It also helps with coughs and bronchial catarrh — a tea can be made for this. For digestion, fresh savory can be used as a culinary herb. Externally, like oregano, it can be used in baths during cold seasons.
Tea Preparation:
Internal: Steep 2 teaspoons of the herb with 250 ml boiling water, covered, for 10 minutes. Strain. Drink 2–3 cups daily after meals.
External: As a bath additive, pour 1 liter boiling water over 100 g of the herb, cover, steep for 15 minutes, strain, and add to bathwater. Do not take warm baths if you have a fever!
