Cornflower
Centaurea cyanus L.
Effects and Use:
Cornflower contains the bitter compound cnicin (centaurin), the glycoside cichoriin, and the light-sensitive anthocyanin glycoside cyanin. The blue color results from a complex of flavones and anthocyanins. Cornflower has a diuretic effect and is used for aesthetic purposes in teas, in eye drops and compresses, and in hair cosmetics.
